Objectives and Background
Start Afresh Mediation is committed to providing the best mediation service in a prompt manner and we aim to accommodate your and the other participants needs.
Unfortunately, when a client cancels without giving adequate notice, it prevents another client from having their case attended to. This cancellation policy is used as a way of respecting the time commitment of all involved. It explains the process for requesting a cancellation and the fees applicable. This policy is used in fairness to both our business and the clients who would otherwise have wanted an appointment.
Mediation Sessions and Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAM)
Cancellation Process
We understand situations can arise in which you must cancel your appointment. Limited time slots are available due to the popularity of our service, therefore, we request that you cancel with adequate notice. This allows us to fill that appointment slot.

We require a minimum of 4 business days-notice for cancellation. Please inform us 4 business days prior to your scheduled appointment to notify us of any changes or cancellations. If no prior notice or the notice given is not provided within the minimum notice period, you will be charged a cancellation fee (see below) for the missed appointment.
Late Arrivals
Where an attendee arrives or logs in after the commencement time an additional hourly rate will be charged and invoiced at £260 per hour (charged in 30 minute increments) to the late attendee.
No Shows
A ‘no show’ at a mediation conference or a MIAM of one or more party constitutes a cancellation with no notice that applies to all parties i.e. all fees are forfeited.
Rescheduling
- A reschedule of your appointment made within 3 business days before the session entitles you to a 50% refund of the full price paid for the purchased time slot (if paid).
- A reschedule of an appointment made 2 business days or less, is deemed as a cancellation and all fees will be forfeited and no refund is due, unless agreed in writing between you and us.
If you cancel or reschedule your time slot on the 3rd business day before your meeting:
- The cancellation/rescheduling fee is equivalent to 50% of your time slot fee.
- The cancellation fee will be charged by electronic funds transfer.
- The cancellation fee may be deducted from any monies paid for the purchased time slot (if any).
- The cancellation fee is the sole responsibility of the client and must be paid in full prior to your next booking.
- The cancellation fee will be invoiced to the participant/s should pre-payment had not been made.
If you cancel or reschedule your time slot with less than 3 business days-notice:
- The cancellation/rescheduling fee is equivalent to your time slot fee.
- The cancellation fee will be charged by electronic funds transfer.
- The cancellation fee may be deducted from any monies paid for the purchased time slot (if any).
- The cancellation fee is the sole responsibility of the client and must be paid in full prior to your next booking.
- The cancellation fee will be invoiced to the participant/s should pre-payment had not been made.
Acceptable circumstances for reduction of cancellation fees
We understand that plans may change due to uncontrollable and external circumstances. Missed appointments can be unintentional or may stem from an emergency, etc. Therefore, cancellation due to such circumstances may incur a reduced cancellation fee. Having cancellation fees reduced requires written approval from Start Afresh Mediation and is at the sole discretion of Start Afresh Mediation and or their nominee.
Refund Policy
- If the notice of cancellation is given more than 3 business days before the booked time slot, Start Afresh Mediation will transfer any amount that was received to book the time slot to the following time slot, if one is booked. If not, a refund of 100% of the paid amount will be provided.
- If the notice of cancellation is given on the 3rd business day before the booked time slot, Start Afresh Mediation will transfer 50% of any amount that was received to book the time slot to the following time slot, if one is booked. If not, a refund of 50% of the paid amount will be provided.
- If the notice of cancellation is given 2 business days or less all fees will be forfeited and no refund is due, unless agreed in writing between you and us.
Document Review and Drafting Services
You may engage our services to review or draft documents or to issue certificates, pre or post a mediation session. These could include review of financial documents and other documents related to financial disclosure or child arrangements in addition to drafting of financial agreements and parenting plans or the issuance of court certificates.
Refunds
Due to the time involved in the review and drafting of documents and certificates, we do not offer a refund under any circumstances.
