Online Mediation

Online mediation means that instead of meeting with you in person, I carry out the full process remotely using Zoom and send you any mediation documents, court certificates and payment confirmations by e-mail.

The demands of modern life limit the time we can devote to a single meeting in a day. This is where online mediation steps in. Remote meetings are about incorporating flexibility during work hours so that mediation is easily accessible. It is not only efficient, but it also has a lower environmental impact.

Instead of meeting with you in person, I carry out the full process remotely using Zoom and send you any mediation documents, court certificates and payment confirmations by e-mail.

To ensure a flawless online mediation, you will require the following:

  • Laptop or tablet with microphone and camera
  • Fast internet connection
  • A quiet place providing you with complete privacy

There are various rules and conditions that govern online mediation, and it takes preparation. Please see my tried and tested tips:

Equipment and other important matters

  • A few days before the mediation date, familiarise yourself with the equipment and try out the online platform
  • Have a plan B in case your technology fails, such as having a charger or a second device on hand
  • Be prepared for mediation:
    • Pen and paper, and any documents you want to refer to
    • glass of water
    • box of tissues

Etiquette during online mediation

  • Respect the confidentiality of the other party, e.g. do not record the session without prior consent. Please read carefully my Online Mediation Policy
  • Speak clearly into the microphone
  • Listen – if you don’t hear something, ask it to be repeated
  • Don’t interrupt – instead, take notes to refer back to when it is your turn to speak
  • Be visible on the screen – facial expression and body language are of great importance in the reception of your statement
  • Do not engage in other matters during the meeting, e.g., do not check text messages, arrange childcare, etc.
